Vacations with your kids before their teens are a very different experience than when they’re older. Older kids tend to want to have more alone time and go on more adventurous trips. Younger kids on the other and have a wide-eyed curiosity about everything. They enjoy seeing new things, going to new places and enjoying life in different parts of the country. 1) Rancho de Los Caballeros, Wickenburg, Arizona
When most people think “ranch,” they don’t think “luxury family vacation” – But that’s exactly what this place is. For kids, they have group activities that include horse riding, swimming, hiking trails and various sports. For adults, you’ve got golfing, time with your spouse and various cowboy adventures.
2) Yosemite, California
Yosemite is one of the most famous national parks in the country. It’s a sprawling landscape of lush forestry and all kinds of animals. Expect your kids to jump up and down in excitement as they spot deer, rabbits and many other critters. There are plenty of activities for the whole family, from camping to hiking to rafting.
3) Grand Canyon, Arizona
The Grand Canyon was carved inch by inch by the flow of water over the course of over 10 million years. The Grand Canyon is an experience in the awe of nature, as well as a fun adventure. Activities include hiking, rafting, kayaking and riding the Grand Canyon Railway. If you and your kids are feeling audacious, you can even go for a trek.
4) Steamboat Springs, Colorado
Steamboat Springs is one of the most kid-friendly ski resorts in the country, if not the world. There are five slopes dedicated just for kids. Kids can get lessons either privately or in groups with other kids their age. A Kid’s Vacation Center makes the kids feel right at home.
5) Washington D.C.
Visiting Washington D.C. takes some planning. It’s a vacation best reserved for kids who care about politics and/or history. If that’s their cup of tea, they’ll love D.C. You can go on tours of the White House, the Capitol Building and see many different historic spots.
6) San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio is the fun capital of Texas. There you have SeaWorld, a thrilling aquatic park that’s especially fun during the summers. Visiting the Six Flags there offers rollercoaster rides, strange foods and a day full of laughter. There are plenty of other things to do in this highly kid-friendly city.
7) Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin
Do your kids like water parks? If so, they’ll love a trip to Wisconsin Dells. The water parks in Wisconsin Dells is simply unmatched by anything else in the country. Sporting thousands of feet of gigantic water slides wave making machines, and thrilling currents, this park is every swimmer’s dream come true. On top of all that, there are also roller coasters, go-carting, and various other attractions.
8) San Francisco, California
San Francisco is one of the most symbolic cities in the United States. When the Gold Rush happened, they more or less single-handedly caused a mass immigration from the east to the west. For kids, seeing the seals at Pier 39, riding the cable cars and playing in the “old school” arcades with games from decades ago is an experience they’ll never forget. Because San Francisco is so close to Yosemite, it often makes sense to combine these two trips.
9) Disney World, Orlando
Kids love Disney World. It’s like walking into their childhood movies and seeing the characters come alive. Not only do they get to interact with the many different Disney characters, but they also get to step inside many of the worlds those characters lived in. Most of the rides, 3D movies and other attractions in Disney World are based on their animated films.
Hawaii is a fantastic destination for kids. For the younger kids, learning how to surf can be the adventure of a lifetime. Older kids will appreciate the opportunity to climb volcanoes and witness rare bird species. Kids of all ages will enjoy the Hawaiian dancing, unique foods, and incredible culture.
Taking your kids on vacation when they’re young is a unique experience. They don’t stay young forever, so take advantage of the time you have now to have some great family fun.
